2.) In the field of Market Research, the name Nielsen, is as recognizable as the name Michael Jordan is to Sports. Arthur C. Nielsen Sr. founded the ACNielsen Company in 1923, and in doing so, he advanced the new field of market research. His methods included test marketing new products to determine product feasibility (we all know what that means!), and measuring product sales. The techniques developed by Nielsen were crucial and important for efficient information before the advancement of computerized statistical software. Nielsen was also an innovator in developing methods of measuring the audience of radio and television broadcasting programs, such as the Nielsen ratings, which radio and television companies still use today.
Please go to the website Nielsen.com – it’s a pretty neat website – take some time and get familiar with how the website is setup. Once you are ready, please click on Reports (at the top of the website). When you are directed to the Reports page, you will see over 10 pages of reports. On the left hand side you will see a side bar of categories, choose a category that interests you. Once you choose a category, read through some reports. Some reports are very short and will not provide you with enough data to answer the blog posting. When you are done, please answer the following questions in a blog comment:
